A Dominican Adventure

Every once in a while team Perropro decides to go on adventures.

On the road, the skateboard becomes a tool that goes beyond the freestyle; it becomes a device for discovery. There is a big difference between being a tourist and a traveler. Seeking adventures through skateboarding brings you to the real experience of enjoying a new culture from the inside.

Skateboarding is a language that transcends cultures and breaks barriers no matter where in the world you are. Like the backpacker with a guitar the skateboard creates conversations without the need for words.

Bruno is currently living in the Caribbean Islands working on an ecological project helping to reverse the neglect for our environment. Camilo and Alberto traveled from Columbia and Los Angeles respectively to join Bruno on his quest and to learn about his mission.

This is the story of 3 friends that exploring the wild and beautiful region of Samana. A place full of exotic vegetation and wonderful locals always smiling and willing to help with a broken motorbike. Often in awe, the locals saw a totally new way to interact with their tiny town.

Featuring the Orangatang Onsen (58mm, 100a) and prototype hybrid wheels.

The 101 South | Episode 3 | Mexico

The 101 South - Episode 3 - Mexico from surfstitch on Vimeo.
As surfers, we are always dreaming of finding that next epic surf spot... A place where the waves are always perfect, and the pressures and monotony of life simply don't exist. And, for us Aussie surfers, there's a certain romantic appeal to that stretch from booming California to uncharted Mexico.

In this episode, we follow Jack Lynch down the 101 with his mates Nate Foster and Alex Knost, searching for perfect surf and, dare we say, finding it!

Bruce Brown | Part One

Bruce Brown, Part One from The Surfer's Journal on Vimeo.
Quietly dwelling in a hidden arroyo near Santa Barbara (and in striking distance of his favorite ranchland surf spot) Brown spends his days with family and his collection of motorized hobby projects.

Bruce Brown aw-shucks his way through every interview he’s ever sat for. He leaves it for others to list his accomplishments and influence. If you’ve read the Bruce features in TSJ, you know the bullet points: Oscar-nominated director of The Endless Summer; commercial sword fisherman; pillar of the apocryphal Dana Point Mafia. And, like a tagline from a Dos Equis commercial, Steve McQueen was his desert racing wingman.

For this episode of POV, filmmaker Chris Malloy—no slouch himself in the surf-and-turf arts—sits a spell with the legendary lensman. Discussion turns quickly from the predictable and into the details of early bootstraps surf filmmaking.

Charming, self-effacing, and as real as they come, we hope you enjoy this two-part portrait of the master.

"Day Glo,
Chrome window,
Shapes in the clouds,
the hungry shoosh for miles around,
upstream, jumpin' out of the water,
gills in the air,
I got many people to thank,
but I can't write letters,
I can't write letters.

My friends on the edge of the old graveyard,
they sit on an old grey porch,
and watch foxes play,
and juggle wine,
the kind of wine that you don't mind spillin',
that you don't mind spillin'.

Well I fill out the forms and I make my death come slowly.
One at a time some kind of record unrollin'.
'You best begin sometime,' she said, 'but you can't start until you're ready.'
Yet it seemed to be controlled,
somehow bowed her fingernails, eyelashes and all the essential parts.
We talk about dreams a lot.
She reads our fortunes out loud,
I think it's funny and I go stay with her,
and I go stay with her,
and I don't mind dyin',
when I make love to her,
to her, to her.
Day Glo.

Under a wall of sound,
a riverbed of clay,
the distance between us stays,
close, but not close,
far, but not too far,
away.
Close, but not close,
far, but not too far,
away.

Day Glo."

Weekend Wanderings

Weekend Wanderings from Biscuit Dunker Productions on Vimeo.
Autumn in the southwest of England has been a funny one so far. After weeks of flatness, a fun, clean groundswell appeared on the horizon to restore everyone's stoke.

Ben Haworth decided to make the most of it and spent a weekend wandering the coastline searching for some uncrowded fun.

In the Bay | Mitch Surman

In the Bay from Rubbed The Lamp on Vimeo.
Being invited into a shaping bay is like going into someone's bedroom except there's a foot of white dust covering everything.

Recently hand shaped boards have made a big come back with more surfers choosing to get their boards from a local shaper than an overseas import.

Mitch Surman invited me into his little surfboard factory in Moffat Beach to find out what goes on behind closed doors.

And to hopefully find out a little bit more from Mitch about what makes it takes to be a surfboard shaper.

SeaLevelTV: ocean-centric, mini documentary films

Original, salty stories that celebrate a colorful culture created by the combination of exceptional people, ideas, and the ocean.

SeaLevelTV is a brand new web channel devoted to bringing you free, high-quality programming about exceptional people and cultures that flourish in and around the sea.

During the short time SeaLevelTV has been up and running (5 months!), we've produced three major releases for two of our original series: "Entrepreneurs & Iconoclasts" and "Saltwater Daughters". Smaller releases include two Instagram mini-series: "For the Love of Logs" and "3 Boards in 3 Days with Josh Hall". One-off shorts include "Skip Frye Plays Blues Harp and Sings" and "Marc Andreini discusses the marriage of 3 surfboard design elements".

We're here on Kickstarter today to get your help writing and producing five new shows over the next six months. In addition to continuing work on our current series', you'll see all new material, including a science show with a political bent, an artist, musician and filmmaker show and a special series devoted to local seaside legends and eccentrics entitled, Beloved Barnacles.
